The right to cancel a job agreed at homeUK
A customer can cancel a contract agreed at their home within 14 days without giving a reason, and for up to 12 months longer if they weren’t told about the right. A visit they asked for to carry out urgent repairs is outside it.

Interest on late paymentUK
On business-to-business debts, statutory interest is 8% plus the Bank of England base rate, plus a fixed £40, £70 or £100. A household customer only owes interest if the contract says so.
What an invoice must showUK
A unique number, your name and any business name, the customer, a description, the supply date, the invoice date, the amounts, VAT if it applies, and the total owed.
VAT registrationUK
You must register when your taxable turnover for the last 12 months goes over £90,000, or you expect it to in the next 30 days.
Making Tax Digital for Income TaxUK
Required from 6 April 2026 if your qualifying self-employment and property income in 2024 to 2025 was over £50,000, from 6 April 2027 over £30,000, and from 6 April 2028 over £20,000.
A court claim for an unpaid billEngland and Wales
Money claims go through the county court. Disputed claims of £10,000 or less go to free mediation first, and fees start at £35 for claims up to £300.
Waste from the jobEngland
A business that transports waste must register as a waste carrier; it’s usually free if you only carry waste you produce yourself.
