Ask for the deposit by chat when she accepts. When the job’s done, the invoice comes from the same job with the deposit taken off, and it’s chased at 3, 7 and 14 days if it isn’t paid. One tap pauses it.

Straight answers
Yes to a deposit: ask for it by chat, as a percentage or an amount, and the final invoice takes it off. Every invoice you raise is chased the same way.
Usually, within 14 days of agreeing it, because it’s an off-premises contract. If they asked you to start inside the 14 days and then cancel, they pay a proportionate amount (reg 36). If they weren’t told about the right to cancel, the period can run up to 12 months longer (reg 31).
Replacing baths, toilets, basins and sinks doesn’t; a new bathroom involving plumbing, or electrics near the bath or shower, may (GOV.UK: building regulations approval). Members of APHC, BESCA, Certsure, HETAS and NAPIT can self-certify.
Take photos as you go. Tools Down files them on the job, and you can ask for them later: “show me the tanking at Sarah’s.”
Only for certain fittings in England and Wales, for example a bath over 230 litres (Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, reg 5).

A job agreed in the customer’s home is an off-premises contract: 14 days to cancel from the day it’s agreed, and up to 12 months more if they weren’t told about the right. Work can start inside the 14 days only at their express request on a durable medium; if they then cancel, they pay a proportionate amount.
Installing a bathroom that involves plumbing, or changing electrics near a bath or shower, may need approval. Replacing baths, toilets, basins and sinks doesn’t.
Toilets, sinks, washbasins, fixed baths, showers or bathrooms in dwellings can be self-certified by members of APHC, BESCA, Certsure, HETAS or NAPIT.
Any addition or alteration to circuits in a room with a bath or shower is notifiable.
Notice and consent are needed before installing a bath of more than 230 litres, a bidet with an ascending spray or flexible hose, or a pump drawing more than 12 litres a minute.
HMRC lists installing kitchens and bathrooms as construction operations. Private householders are not contractors under CIS.
A business that transports waste must register as a waste carrier; it’s usually free if you only carry waste you produce yourself.
